Chapter 1: Back to School Blues and a Taste of Youngstown

September 2nd: Youngstown, Ohio

Paul Shellback, an English teacher at Youngstown High, was no stranger to the chaos of the first day of school. As the halls buzzed with the sounds of students catching up after the summer, Paul found himself wrestling with an all-too-familiar discomfort—a nagging back pain that had plagued him throughout the football off-season. Standing in front of his English class, trying to get a roomful of teenagers excited about the syllabus, Paul couldn’t help but feel the tension building in his lower back.

By lunchtime, Paul had reached his limit. He headed straight for the teacher’s lounge, where his sister Lisa, who also taught at the school, was waiting with her usual knowing look.

“Rough start?” Lisa asked, handing him a coffee.

“Rough back,” Paul grunted as he carefully lowered himself into a chair. “I need to figure something out before this pain drives me insane.”

As he settled in, Paul couldn’t help but share a story from earlier that day. “You won’t believe what happened in my second period,” he began. “I’m lecturing about the importance of writing essays, and this one kid—right in the middle of my talk—raises his hand and says, ‘Mr. Shellback, I don’t know what the ‘oxy’ part means, but I know what a ‘moron’ is, and you looked right at me when you said it!’”

Lisa burst into laughter. “And what did you do?”

Paul shrugged, a grin creeping onto his face. “What could I do? I had to explain that it was just a coincidence, but the whole class was in stitches.”

After the laughter died down, Lisa reached into her bag and pulled out a small bottle labeled Steel Valley Hemp Full Spectrum Tincture Oil 600mg. “Here, I thought you might need this,” she said. “It’s been a lifesaver for me. Just a few drops under the tongue, and it should help with the pain and stress.”

Paul examined the bottle, remembering their conversation from last week when Lisa had mentioned how this tincture had been her go-to for dealing with stress and minor aches. He had been skeptical then, but now, with the first day already feeling like an eternity, he was willing to give anything a shot.

“Can’t hurt,” he muttered, administering a few drops under his tongue. The taste was mild, and he hoped the effects would kick in quickly.

By the end of the school day, Paul noticed something different. His back still hurt, but the sharp edge of the pain had dulled, making it more manageable. Plus, he felt more relaxed, less on edge than he typically did on such a hectic day.

Feeling a bit more optimistic, Paul decided to stop by the Youngstown Clothing Co. on his way home. He needed a pick-me-up, and what better way to do that than by grabbing some fresh gear to represent his city? Located in the Southern Park Mall, the store was a favorite among locals, offering high-quality apparel that celebrated everything special about Youngstown (Youngstown Live).

As Paul browsed through the racks, he found a t-shirt emblazoned with “Youngstown Pride” and couldn’t resist. After purchasing it, he thought about the weekend ahead. Lisa had mentioned something about relaxing at her place in North Port, Florida, over Labor Day. Maybe it was time for a change of scenery—his back could certainly use the break, and who knew, maybe there’d be more than just relaxation waiting for him down there.

As he left the store, Paul’s mind was already drifting to Florida’s sunny beaches, a welcome escape from the Ohio grind. With his new Youngstown gear in hand and a small bottle of relief tucked in his bag, Paul was ready to take on whatever came next.
