Chapter 12: Pre-Party Jitters and Key Lime Chill
October 28th: Venice, Florida (Setting the Halloween Scene)

The air in Venice, Florida was heavy with the anticipation of Halloween weekend. Paul stood in the middle of Christy’s living room, gazing at the half-finished decorations scattered around him. The countdown to their annual Halloween party had officially begun, and while the pirate flags were already up, there were still pumpkins to carve and a fog machine that refused to cooperate. The house was a mix of spooky and chaos—like Halloween had exploded all over the place but hadn’t quite settled yet.

Christy was knee-deep in her costume planning, trying to decide if adding a parrot to her pirate ensemble would be too much. “What do you think?” she asked, holding up a stuffed parrot. “Is this overkill?”

Paul chuckled, shaking his head. “I think it’s perfect. Pirates always need a parrot, right?”

“Right!” Christy grinned, tossing the parrot onto the couch. “Okay, parrot stays. Now, what’s the game plan for the food and drinks?”

Paul rubbed the back of his neck, glancing over at the kitchen counter, which was lined with bags of candy and snacks they’d picked up earlier. “We’ve got the basics covered—chips, candy, spooky cupcakes—but I think we need something more… fun for the drinks. Something with a little more kick than the usual.”

Christy nodded. “Agreed. Something that’ll make the party stand out, but also keep everyone relaxed. We don’t want people bouncing off the walls on sugar and caffeine.”

Paul’s mind immediately went to the stop he’d made earlier at Tri-Healthy. “I might’ve already solved that problem,” he said, flashing a grin. “I grabbed some of the new XITE Killer Key Lime Drinks—Delta 9-infused, lime-flavored, and just the right amount of buzz to keep things fun but chill.”

Christy’s eyes lit up. “Oh, I’ve been meaning to try those! Key lime’s a classic Florida flavor, and with the Delta 9 kick, it sounds like the perfect party drink.”

Paul nodded. “I figured we could offer those alongside the Delta 8 vapes. It’ll be a good balance for people who want to chill but still get into the Halloween spirit.”

Christy clapped her hands together, clearly impressed. “You’re a genius! This is why I keep you around. Between those drinks and our pirate costumes, this party is going to be legendary.”

Paul chuckled. “Legendary might be a bit much, but I’ll take it.”

They spent the next few hours putting up decorations, carving pumpkins, and creating the perfect spooky playlist. Paul couldn’t resist slipping in a few of his favorite football anthems, but he promised to keep it mostly Halloween-themed. By the time they finished, the house was looking more party-ready—fake cobwebs hung from the ceiling, candles flickered from jack-o’-lanterns, and the pirate theme was in full swing.

As the sun began to set, they took a break on the porch, sipping some iced tea and admiring their handiwork. The porch was already glowing with orange string lights, and the pirate ship they’d made out of cardboard boxes sat proudly by the front door. Paul had to admit, they’d done a pretty good job.

“So,” Christy said, leaning back in her chair, “are you nervous about the party? It’s our biggest one yet.”

Paul took a deep breath and shrugged. “A little, but honestly? I think with the Key Lime drinks and the Delta 8 vapes, we’ve got this. Everyone’s going to have fun, and if the football game’s on in the background, even better.”

Christy smiled, reaching for her tea. “You’re right. It’s all about balance—fun, relaxation, and just enough spooky vibes. Plus, I’m pretty sure the fog machine will kick in eventually.”

Paul laughed, remembering how the fog machine had been stubbornly refusing to work all afternoon. “Let’s hope. Otherwise, we’ll just have to rely on our pirate costumes to bring the drama.”

They sat in comfortable silence for a while, both feeling a sense of calm as the last of the daylight faded. The weekend ahead was going to be busy, but in this moment, Paul felt good. Everything was falling into place—Christy’s excitement was contagious, and the plan for the drinks seemed like the perfect way to keep things light and fun.

“Alright,” Christy said, breaking the silence, “tomorrow we’ll finalize everything. Decorations, food, and we’ll test out those Key Lime drinks just to be sure they’re as good as we think.”

Paul raised an eyebrow. “A pre-party taste test? Sounds like a plan.”

Christy grinned. “Exactly. We need to make sure everything is perfect before Halloween night. And if that means cracking open a few cans of Delta 9 Key Lime ahead of time, so be it.”

As the stars began to twinkle above, Paul couldn’t help but feel like they were ready for whatever the weekend would bring. Halloween was going to be one for the books—good friends, great vibes, and just the right amount of spooky magic.
